Arches

We were actually on the road by 7:30 this morning!  Miracles do happen!  We drove from Fruita,  CO and took the scenic route 128 from rt 70 to Arches.  This road hugs the Colorado River,  winding down into and through canyons.  Truly an amazing road to travel on and far more interesting that Rt 70, zipping along at 80 mph (the posted speed! !!).  We were in Arches National Park and hiking by 10.  We hiked a "difficult " trail that took us 3 miles round trip up switchbacks and along cliff edges to Delicate Arch.  Definitely not the hike for those who aren't fond of heights.....  It was so cool once we got there because you can climb up and stand in the arch.  There is a big bowl below and towering rocks all around.
It took me a while to trust the treads on my boots, but once I did,  I found they stick to the rock and allow you to climb up stuff you wouldn't normally attempt.  Matt Ralph and Ana Pimsler if you read this, slick rock mountain biking would be amazing! Grant was a daredevil and Andrew and Will became climbers also.

From Delicate arch we went to Double Arch and did some more climbing and hiking around.  This was the favorite of all, probably because we didn't hike 3 miles in 90 plus degree heat to see it!! Did I mention that it is hot as blazes here? Holy Moly, dry heat is still hot as heck when it's 100 degrees.
We had an excellent day and are looking forward to Glen Canyon tomorrow!

  1. Why do I have to be afraid of heights??? So many beautiful places I will never be able to get to.
