Cedar Breaks National Monument

Visiting Cedar Breaks Monument kind of happened on a whim. We left our campsite on the early side this morning and knew we couldn't check in at Zion until afternoon so we took a side trip.  What an EXCELLENT decision this was!  Just 30 minutes off of our direct route, Cedar Breaks is about 1/3 of the way between Bryce and Zion and checks in at 10,400 ft. in elevation.  It was amazing - looked very similar to Bryce in terms of geology and color, but with snow! 49 degrees and stiff wind was what greeted us as we got out of the car.  The air was refreshingly cool and brisk.  No trails exist to hike down in the canyon, so we settled for a view from the rim and a trip through the visitors center.   So glad we stopped here because it was unique and the drive there gave us a different perspective on the landforms of southern Utah.   We even drove through cinder cone remnants of ancient volcanic activity.   Totally worth taking the road less traveled this time.
