Grand Canyon and driving through Vermillion Cliffs

We've been busy but have had little cell coverage, so I'm catching up!!  On Thursday,  June 9, we drove from Antelope Canyon in the morning, to the north rim of the Grand Canyon by way of Vermillion Cliffs National Monument.   Beautiful drive from the hot desert to the high Kaibab Plateau.  Temperatures dropped by 25 degrees as we traveled the 3 hours between the two points.  We pulled into the Grand Canyon a little earlier than we thought so we stopped at our campsite, Demott Campground, on the way in.  The site was situated on the road into the park, about 20 minutes from the rim,  in the Kaibab National Forest. The stars were so bright tonight and they were visible all the way to the horizon.   It was like sleeping in a planetarium.  Glorious site and beautiful visit to the canyon.  We walked along the rim trail and then drove to the Cape Royal Viewpoint.   The canyon is so big that it is truly hard to grasp the magnitude of it's size.  We could see a fire at the south rim across the canyon but to get there you have to drive 200+ miles and it takes more than 4 hours.  We loved the less crowded, much cooler north.  It was 48° as we camped tonight which made for some comfortable sleeping weather!
