Glacier - West Side

As we traveled from Idaho to Montana, it rained the entire way.  We saw the weather report which called for rain, thunderstorms,  stiff winds (25-30 mph and gusting to 40), and snow! A winter weather advisory was issued as we neared the park- 1-3 inches at lower elevations and 8+at the higher.  We did go and sit in our campsite for a minute, in the car.... But, decided to seek a little hotel at the park's west gate in the end..  Probably a good choice as there was rain, hail, and winds along with the cold last night.  We woke up warm and dry with huckleberry muffins for breakfast  :)
Even though it was dreary yesterday, we did check out Lake MacDonald and drive to Logan Pass on the Going To The Sun Road yesterday.   What a majestic place this is,  even in the rain!! The lake is huge and clear with a rainbow of smooth stones covering it's shores and the bottom of the lake.  I've never seen such interesting rock colors.  We noticed that local builders take advantage of these cool stones and we saw them in the fireplace at the lodge and in all the walkways.
From Lake MacDonald,  we drove up to Logan Pass.  Thus road is not for the faint of heart as it winds up and around the park with steep cliffs and meager guard rails lining the narrow roads.  Some parts of the road had large rocks jutting out from the "inside" edge and crumbling guard rails, from recent landslides, ilon the outside.  I completely understand why it is closed in the winter!  Beautiful views and amazing waterfalls pouring from melting snow on the peaks, make this a must do though.  Everything in this park is big!  Can't wait to check out more today as we take the Going to the Sun Rd. back over to the east side today.  We will be camping at Many Glacier campground tonight on the shores of Lake Josephine and under the towering mountains.   We hope to see the moose that frequently visit and perhaps a bear from afar.  The trail to Grinnell Glacier that we hoped to hike remains closed due to snow,  but we will hike to Grinell Lake instead and look for a glimpse of the glacier from below.
