We spent last night in Vegas son that we could easily drop Andrew's friend Will at the airport. I'm not ashamed to admit that a nice bed felt pretty good, too.... My camp pad is pretty comfy but the bed was nice.
Now for the yikes! We left Vegas at 11:00 and headed west. Nice drive and made it to Death Valley in no time. We got a out and visited the lookout and visitor's center and it was like being in a giant convection oven - hot with 40 mph winds. We decided we were happy that we visited, but no way would we want to stay. All the campgrounds here were empty and I understand that completely.
As we left the visitor's center at -230 ft elevation we climbed up pretty quickly. We crested the mountains and came down the other side and found traffic stopped. Giant sand storm! The police said drive the 5 hours around or sit and wait it out. We chose to wait and sat in the windy convection oven for about 3 hours. On the positive, we met some cool people traveling from Germany and Ireland and got a close view of the storm. Finally the police did an escort through and we made it out! What an experience!

So glad you saw that from a safe distance. Hope the beds here are comfy as well - not the best accommodations but we are trying to get it organized as best we can for 4 months. Plus pretty views all around!
